The study of eartquakes is called seismology. At the begining of the history the first seismologists were the chinese who were very interested in this topic so they decided to investigate more about it, they start recordingall the quakes to know in ditail what were happening and why these are produced.
They also developed an interestiing method to predict quakes by felling a ceramic jar to the brim with water and leaving it set, if the water overflowed an earthquakes was imminent, off course this experiment was increalible an incertain because until today, and with the advanced techonology that exist, its impossible to predict this kind of phenomena.
One thing that has passed from generation to generation is the beleave of the fact that some species of animals can feel this quakes even minutes before it ocurre. In some cases the dogs and birds are the most sensitive animals.
